Compassionate Voice
Singing
"Holding all of the fear and self-judgment that one usually has as a young singer and even as a young adult, Claire’s lessons helped me to break that perpetual cycle of self-doubt."

I have taught singing since 2004 and passionately believe that everyone has the potential to improve and feel more comfortable with their voice. I offer compassionate, mental health-informed sessions and believe strongly that empathy and kindness are key to being able to help a client grow in confidence and access their authentic sound.
I teach adults, young people and children (usually age 10+) and specialise particularly in working with female voice. Whether you are an experienced singer looking to progress, a complete beginner, or someone who feels anxious about singing, I offer a nurturing, gentle approach to support both your voice and your wellbeing. I cover a range of vocal styles, including Classical, Music Theatre and Pop and am experienced in preparing students for exams.

Sessions take place in my home studio, which is located in Old Stratford, between Milton Keynes, Buckingham and Northampton.

Client Testimonials
"Having sung with Claire for five years (from the ages of 13-18) there was nothing I needed more at that pivotal time in my life .....Claire’s lessons helped me to break that perpetual cycle of self-doubt"
"After my trial lesson, I knew I had to continue my journey singing with Claire. I've had singing lessons before, but Claire's approach was different - and it worked the best for voice development and joy in making music"

"I can't praise Claire's singing tuition highly enough. She is extremely encouraging and has increased my confidence in my singing voice enormously. My initial set of six lessons were a Christmas present from my husband and I have continued weekly lessons with her for just over a year. Without the initial gift I probably wouldn't have considered taking singing lessons, but with Claire's encouragement, I feel much more positive about my voice"

"I am studying GCSE music and wanted to improve my singing technique and confidence. I really enjoy the sessions with Claire. She has taught me how to use different aspects of my voice so I now feel I better understand my voice as an instrument. I sometimes suffer with anxiety but Claire makes me feel comfortable during lessons, is encouraging and provides lots of feedback. Claire is helping me grow into a much more confident singer"

"My daughter has had some struggles in school, is very reserved and although she loves music, had never had enough confidence to sing out loud. She has been seeing Claire for singing sessions for the past few months and the shift has been so positive, Not only does she now sing freely around the house, but the confidence Claire has helped to build has crossed over into so many other areas of her life. Claire spent a lot of time building a relationship with her, helping her to believe in her own abilities and seeing and treating her as an individual. She looks forward to her lessons so much and often mentions details from her lessons where she is so happy and has such a sense of accomplishment. Her sleep has even improved! Claire has made such a significant impact and we are both enormously grateful"

At the start of a first singing session, I always spend a period of time chatting with a new client, discussing their previous singing experience and getting to know what they are hoping to gain from our sessions together. Whilst a session is individually tailored to each client's needs and voice, an example session might include the following:

-
Breathing exercises to help deepen and extend the breath
-
Gentle movement to relax the body
-
Gently introducing the use of the voice in connection with a deeper, more supported breath
-
Vocal warm-ups and exercises to help extend vocal range and freedom of the voice
-
Working together to find song repertoire suited to the voice
-
Approaches to increase vocal self-confidence and self-compassion

Do I need to be an experienced singer to have lessons ?
Absolutely not, I teach clients with all levels of singing experience, including absolute beginners and those who have always believed that they 'can't sing'. My underpinning goal is to support everyone to feel comfortable to sing and to increase joy and confidence in their voice, whatever their singing background

Do I need to be able to read music to have lessons ?

No, you don't need to be able to read music and, whilst I can help to teach you this skill, there is no requirement at all

Do I need to have weekly sessions?

Session regularity is flexible, although weekly or fortnightly sessions are recommended to get the most out of our work together. I offer sessions at 30, 45 and 60 minutes - prices can be found in the section towards the top of the page

What is the best first step for me if I am interested in having sessions ?

Please feel free to contact me here or via email to ask any questions that you might have. I always recommend that interested clients book a consultation session to meet with me, to discuss their needs and to experience a singing session to see if they feel that we are a good 'fit'
